The purpose of this workshop is to empower nurse educators with the knowledge and skills to effectively integrate generative AI tools into their teaching and professional practices. Participants will explore the fundamental principles of generative AI and discover practical applications for creating engaging educational materials, designing innovative assignments, and enhancing assessments. The workshop will also address ethical considerations and best practices, ensuring responsible AI usage in educational settings. By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped to leverage AI for professional development, scholarly activities, and ultimately, to enrich the learning experience for nursing students.

- Demonstrate the use of generative AI tools to create educational materials for nursing courses.

- Design innovative assignments that incorporate generative AI to facilitate learning and assessment in nursing courses.

Rachel Cox Simms is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the Institute for Health Professions (IHP), where she specializes in pharmacology and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing education. Joseph is a proven nurse leader with more than 20 years of patient care and administrative experience in the acute care hospital setting. He currently is the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Cambridge Health Alliance in the Boston area. He is responsible for the oversight of inpatient nursing services and clinical operations for two acute care safety net hospitals serving the Northeast Boston area neighborhoods. Joseph received his bachelor's degrees in psychology and nursing from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois. He received his master's degree in public administration from Suffolk University Sawyer Business School in Boston, MA. Joseph is currently pursuing his doctorate in nursing practice from MGHIHP in Boston, MA. As part of his doctoral work, he has special interests in the implementation of IA assisted predictive modeling to reduce the workload burden of nurses. Joseph has served as an adjunct clinical faculty member specializing in leadership and quality improvement at the URI school of nursing. Joseph is a creative and innovative professional with accomplishments leading change. He is a highly visible, hands-on approach leader with proven abilities in building teams and partnerships to accomplish missions. He is an active member of the Organization of Nurse Leaders serving on their Programs and Government Affairs Committees as well as receiving their Elane K. Sherwood award for excellence in service 2023 and Sharon A. Smith Scholarship in 2024.
